What a character from the deep! The lantern fish is a deep sea predator who entices its prey with an eerie glowing head lamp. Our rendition delights those who are drawn to its own little lantern; a tea candle held aloft in a repurposed glass container. The body is hand carved from reclaimed red cedar, originally cut for deck boards. We’ve lightly sandblasted it to enhance the texture, and stained it with a thin wash of enamel paint to bring out the grain of the wood. The fins and teeth are all hammered and hand shaped copper wire, the eyes are flat glass marbles, and the tongue is a round glass marble. Our lantern fish is completely finished on both sides, and can be hung indoors or outside using the two eye screws that come attached to the wood body.
